One of the questions I hear most often from expecting parents is, “Should we do an in-home newborn session or a studio newborn session?”

While both options can create beautiful images, I’ve found that more and more families are choosing studio newborn photography—and honestly, I can see why.

As a newborn photographer in New Richmond, WI, my goal is always to create a relaxed experience that allows parents to focus on soaking in those first few weeks with their baby. A studio session removes so much of the stress and allows us to create timeless images without worrying about cleaning the house, finding good natural light, or preparing spaces before your session.

A Stress-Free Experience for New Parents

Let’s be honest: the newborn stage is beautiful, but it’s also exhausting.

Between sleepless nights, feedings, and adjusting to life with a new baby, the last thing most parents want to worry about is preparing their home for photos.

When you arrive for your newborn session, everything is already set up and ready to go. The space is warm, comfortable, and designed specifically for photographing newborns and families. All you need to do is show up and love on your baby.

Timeless Images That Focus on Connection

One of the reasons I love studio newborn photography is the simplicity.

My style is centered around neutral tones, natural posing, and genuine connection. By keeping backgrounds and styling simple, the focus stays exactly where it belongs—on your growing family and your new baby.

Years from now, I want you to look back at your photos and remember how tiny their fingers were, how they fit perfectly in your arms, and how much love filled those early days.

A Baby-Led Approach

Every newborn session is completely baby-led.

Some babies sleep the entire session. Others prefer to stay awake and take everything in. Both are perfect.

We take breaks whenever needed for feeding, cuddling, diaper changes, or simply giving your baby a moment to settle. There is never any pressure to rush through the experience.

The goal isn’t perfection—it’s preserving this season exactly as it is.

Including Parents and Siblings

Some of my favorite images from newborn sessions aren’t the posed portraits.

They’re the moments when a big sibling proudly snuggles next to their new baby brother or sister. The way a mother instinctively kisses her baby’s forehead. The way a father looks at his newborn for the first time.

These are the images that often become family favorites.

That’s why every newborn session includes time for family and sibling portraits alongside individual baby images.

When Should You Book a Newborn Photographer?

The best time to book your newborn session is during your second trimester.

Booking early allows me to reserve space around your due date and ensures we can schedule your session once baby arrives.

Most newborn sessions take place within the first two to three weeks after birth, but beautiful newborn portraits can be created at any age.
