There is something incredibly tender about those first days at home with your baby.

The slow mornings. The quiet feeding sessions. The way time feels both rushed and suspended all at once. You’re exhausted and completely in love. The house might feel a little messy. Laundry might be piling up. But in the middle of it all, there is this softness that only exists in those early newborn days.

That is exactly what I love to capture.

As a lifestyle newborn photographer serving River Falls, New Richmond, and the surrounding Twin Cities area, my in-home newborn sessions are designed to feel calm, natural, and completely baby-led. Nothing stiff. Nothing overly posed. Just your family, exactly as you are, welcoming this brand new little person into your world.

One of the first things parents tell me before their session is, “I’m worried my house isn’t photo ready.”

Let me gently say this: it does not need to be.

Your home doesn’t need to be spotless or perfectly decorated. We typically use one or two areas with good natural light — often the master bedroom, nursery, or living room near a window. I’ll guide you the entire time and keep things simple. We move a chair if needed, clear a nightstand, fluff a comforter. That’s it.

Your home isn’t the focus. Your connection is.

Sessions typically last around an hour to an hour and a half, but there’s never a rush. We pause for feeding. We take breaks for diaper changes. If baby needs to be rocked or soothed, we lean into that. Some newborns sleep the entire session. Others are wide awake and curious. Both are beautiful. Both are worth remembering.

My approach is minimal and lifestyle-focused. I bring a few soft, neutral swaddles if needed, but I don’t rely on props or complicated setups. A simple white onesie. Bare feet. Wrapped up in mom’s arms. Those are the images that stay timeless.

You can expect a gentle mix of guided moments and natural interaction. I’ll softly direct you into flattering light and positions, but I’m always watching for the in-between moments , the way you instinctively kiss the top of their head, the way big brother peeks in to count tiny toes, the way your hands automatically cradle them close.

Those are the frames that tell the story.

One of the biggest benefits of an in-home newborn session is that you don’t have to pack a diaper bag or rush out the door days after giving birth. Everything you need is right there. You’re comfortable. Baby is comfortable. The pace feels slow and steady instead of stressful.

And years from now, when you look back at these images, you won’t just see how tiny they were. You’ll remember the house you brought them home to. The light in your bedroom. The couch where you rocked them at 2am. The way this season felt.

Those first weeks can be a blur. My job is to preserve the softness inside it.

If you’re expecting and considering an in-home newborn session in Hudson, New Richmond, River Falls or the surrounding areas, I would truly love to document this chapter for you. I tentatively schedule sessions around your due date and finalize once baby arrives, keeping everything flexible because we all know babies have their own timelines.

You don’t need a perfect home. You don’t need a perfectly sleepy baby. You just need to show up and hold them close.

I’ll take care of the rest.
